I thought SMSQ already had colour drivers for the Aurora card.

Nope, I only wish it did - would make writing Q-Word a hell of a lot easier!!
At the moment, Aurora still only supports mode 4 and mode 8. There is no way of accessing its built in 256 colour mode, except by direct hardware access.
