You better look into it yourself ;) I would have to get GDAL compiled with ECW support. And I just remember the last time I did that.... After all it should be just an optional commandline parameter to tell GDAL to use ECW as output format. Thus it's not too much hacking. But a lot of testing. Give it a try.
