Hi, first let me express my gratitude for this great piece of software,
that makes it possible to use our GPS devices from Linux and Windows,
without having to resort to expensive and (let's admit) featurefull
commercial software only available in Windows.

I have seen that recent version 1.1.2 has support for map tile servers, as
said in the Changelog and announced by the software maintainer. The
included OpenStreetMap tile servers are nice, and a big plus for the
software, but after having a look at how it seems to be implemented, I
don't quite get how to configure well-known additional tile servers, like
GoogleMaps, or the whole set of available map servers that, for example,
you have access to from JOSM.

I can see that starting with GDAL 1.7.0 (and improved and extended in GDAL
1.9.0, yet to be released) "gdal_translate" has native support for querying
WMS/TMS map tile servers, and I don't know if current QlandkarteGT support
for queryig map tiles makes use of it...as I have been unable to make
Google Maps work from inside QlandkarteGT (API terms of use aside).

I have to admit that everything I've tried from the following GDAL URL have
failed for me in one way or another, mostly SIGSEGVs after the
gdal_translate downloads from the Internet and tries to write the file:
http://www.gdal.org/frmt_wms.html

I have also had a brief look at the QlandkarteGT source code, and see there
is a #ifdef WMS_CLIENT in some files, that doesn't seem to be defined
anywhere, and that appears at some places, like in the "create map" dialog,
options that I have been unable to "unlock".

So que question is, with current QlandkarteGT 1.1.2 and GDAL 1.8.0, is
there a way to configure remote WMS/TMS as supported by GDAL? Is the
current support for configuring tile servers implemented taking advantage
of GDAL, or is it just an implementation for the program? I also don't get
how to enable "Custom Maps", if there are no checkboxes next to them. Any
example addition map server that alread works? Does the checkbox only shows
when the program has successfully contacted the remote server, and detected
is a correct tile server?

Too many questions, but I'm available for testing and further investigation.

Greetings.
