Hi Albrecht, in fact, writing some instructions on how to configure the XML
files for GDAL, so to make QLGT able to load online maps on demand is on mi
TODO list, but the list is long, and growing :-)

So far I have been spreading the word on QLGT in Spanish forums (see for
example the next URL, if the server is not down, as it is sometimes):
http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.php?741846-QLandkarteGT-Hilo-para-centralizar-dudas-experiencias-y-comentarios

Creating the XML files is easy as you have already seen, but can take some
knowledge about the syntax of the WMS protocol, and some trial and error
(to estimate good values for SizeX and SizeY, as too low values would give
bad resolution at the highest QLGT zoom (x1), but too high ones will
exercise the remote map server more than necessary, requesting tiles for
resolutions that are not available, and creating unnecessary load on the
remote servers, that should be treated with care.

I also have some XML files for accessing Google Maps layers (street layer,
satellite imaginery layer, street overlay and terrain layer), and when I
have time to debug them a bit I'll send them all to Oliver for inclusion in
the download section of the webpage (there are some files already). And
will write a short tutorial on how to create these files, that hopefully
can be included with the program sources, or even as a help window from the
program itself.

Greetings,
