I know ;) But there is also a lot of pride. Every chief scientist 
couldn't take over the system of the neighbor country. And many 
reference points for the datum notations are on the same continental 
plate. And some countries like GB even invented their own local 
coordinate notation.

That's all historic noise, with a certain reason. But taken the idea of 
the Enlightenment things should advance to a common system with datum 
references based on scientific reasons, not political ones.

But apart from my own opinion things are like they are :)
