Yeeees, you are both right. I can not believe it, I've used this hundreds of times and it never happened to me. By hiding the points the range is no longer visible and for this reason I did not see the 'problem' ;-)
And I have uninstalled, recompiled ... :-(

This is one of the constant nuisances. It seems to be impossible to intercept
the mouse enter and leave events in a fail safe manner. That is why sometimes
QMapShack does not switch back to the tool cursor when leaving a dialog. But
moving the mouse out of the map view and into it again should reset the
situation.
