was able to build with with VS2017 !
I just have a few remarks :
* At the first try with zlib: I had to use VS2015 as it was not
possible to compile with VS2017
* When building jpeg : I got "SDK Windows version 10.0.16299.0
missing" and had to install it separately
* My proj\share folder was empty then QMS cannot start because of
missing projection folder ; I had to copy-paste projection files
(epsg, esri, GL27, etc...) from my existing QMS installation folder
* At the end I tried again to build zlib with VS2017 and it was OK !
Maybe because of SDK Windows version vxxx installed in-between...
* I forgot to add "QtWebxxx" in Qt installation assistant (I first
unchecked everything because I don't need 32 bits versions and
Android for example) then of course I got issues with Cmake not
finding Qt5WebEngineWidgets...
That's it.

For the latest source from the repository, the old instructions no
longer work.
I plan to replace the Wiki page after the first release based on VS2017.
Sorry that you fell in that trap.
I hope that the compile instructions for VS2017 work for you.
Wolfgang was already able to reproduce the build based on them.
It is some additional effort to set up the new environment.
But I think that in the end it will pay off as we no can use the latest
Qt and gdal libraries. With the new set up we get now even the MBTiles
map format working based on gdal.

I tried to use Qt5WebEngineWidgets path to Qt5.5 directory but then
compilation with Visual Studio fails.
What should I do ?
