I tried installing the ubunutugis packages to see if that would help.
Now I have Qt 5.12.0, Gdal 3.2.1, Proj4 7.2.1, and Routino 3.3.2(API V8)
Unfortunately it did NOT solve any of these problems... Caltopo WMTS
tiles are still blank, vrt files still do not render, but I no longer
get the Invalid latitude errors. Other WMTS servers seem to work ok...
Caltopo WMTS and vrt files still yield blank tiles...

Haven't used QmapShack in a few weeks, but this week when I fire it up,
Caltopo WMTS maps show tiles being downloaded, but they render as blank
maps. Arcgis WMTS maps, Google maps Terrain all render just fine...
Vrt maps that used to render ok (which I haven't used in quite a while)
now also render as blank maps, but the console dialog comes up with:
merc: Invalid latitude
repeated a bunch of times -- maybe there is a clue in that...
I've recompiled it with different proj versions (19 and 22) and
they both behave the same way...
I've not got enough experience with proj4 and gdal implications
to know what else to try at this point.
I reported this on the caltopo support page, but they claim their
server is doing fine. My QGIS flatpak renders my caltopo maps fine as
well, so I'm inclined to believe the Caltopo served maps are ok...
Suggestions????
