No it is not the default behaviour. However, the creation of the Maildir is not instantaneous, but it may not take too long. if you want to see if all is working well, do "qmailctl doqueue" and the Maildir will be created.

I have noticed that the creation of the maildir only happens upon POP3 / IMAP4
login. The maildir does not seem to be created upon delivery of a mail. Is
this the default behaviour or am I doing something wrong?
