Hi Qmail Scanner list...

(if you want all the previous techy info it is below)

Thanks for the reply Larry, it really is appriciated I will try anything now
it is getting that desperate - if monday morning rolls round and I haven't
solved this I don't think she'll stand up to the usual hammering and I will
be shouted at badly!  :(

I have just followed LWQ through http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html (am
pretty damn sure, been through it a few times now) and reset everything up,
and the same thing is happening.

It now only happens the moment I enable qmail-scanner-queue.pl in tcp.smtp
(it was in my old qmail-smtpd startup script)
:allow,QMAILQUEUE="/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl"
so at least I definately know this is qmail-scanner-queue.pl related.

I have recompiled qmail-1.03 from source with the qmailqueue patch and
reinstalled qmail-scanner-queue.pl from source with these options:
./configure --admin technical --domain domain.co.uk --scanners
sophie,verbose_spamassassin --unzip no --install

I enclose my relevent new run scripts - the logging scripts are exactly as
per LWQ

cat /service/qmail-send/run
#!/bin/sh
exec /var/qmail/rc

cat /service/qmail-smtpd/run
#!/bin/sh
QMAILDUID=`id -u qmaild`
NOFILESGID=`id -g qmaild`
MAXSMTPD=`cat /var/qmail/control/concurrencyincoming`
LOCAL=`head -1 /var/qmail/control/me`
if [ -z "$QMAILDUID" -o -z "$NOFILESGID" -o -z "$MAXSMTPD" -o -z "$LOCAL" ];
then
    echo QMAILDUID, NOFILESGID, MAXSMTPD, or LOCAL is unset in
    echo /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd/run
    exit 1
fi
if [ ! -f /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts ]; then
    echo "No /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts!"
    echo "Refusing to start SMTP listener because it'll create an open
relay"
    exit 1
fi
exec /usr/local/bin/softlimit -m 30000000 \
/usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -R -x /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb -c "$MAXSMTPD" -u
"$QMAILDUID" -g "$NOFILESGID" 0 smtp /usr/local/bin/rblsmtpd -r
relays.ordb.org sh -c '
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd
cd /var/qmail/autoturn
exec setlock -nx $TCPREMOTEIP/seriallock maildirsmtp $TCPREMOTEIP
autoturn-$TCPREMOTEIP- $TCPREMOTEIP AutoTURN ' 2>&1

That is the same as LWQ except for the autoturn stuff, which has been fine
for the last 5 years. ;) The reason the box looked like it did is because
we have been using qmail a long time and all this fancy stuff wasn't about
when we first set it up!!

Please does anyone have any ideas why the perl5.6.1 processes are being
orphaned? Does anyone have this setup working under SMP I have dual CPU's??
Are there any tests anyone thinks I can run for more debug info now I am
running like LWQ? Larry? Jason? qmail-queue.log isn't showing anything...

Thanks for all your help so far...
Pete

I looked at your run script in the qmail list and wondered why you had
it set up that way. If you will uninstall everything and install it via
the instructions found at http://www.lifewithqmail.org/ including the
logging features, you will have better success and others will be able
to help you. There is no need to log the way you do: you can create perl
scripts to parse your logs or use qmailanalog.

Once you get everything working that way I wouldn't be surprised if
qmail-scanner installs and works without pain.
