The FAQ is correct. Unlike the AV daemons, spamd reads the entire
message via a pipe - so it can run as a separate username (i.e. spamd).

You should get it to work through Q-S - bunging things through separate
shell scripts is just adding complexity and taking yet more resources
from your server.
