Because it's not clear which provides more security. The principle
that Dan is applying (more complicated code is more error-prone code)
is equally applicable to the Redhat comparison code. If a principle
does not discern, then it is useless as an explanation of why one
chooses something.
In case this isn't obvious enough: If you ask a child why he prefers
bananas to lemons, and he replied "because they're yellow", you're
likely to ask him for another reason, because they're both yellow.
