Have you checked the FAQ?

"5.3. How do I set up qmail-pop3d?"

http://www.qmail.org/ . Search for 'convert-and-create'.

Do you know Perl ? :) It should be easy to write a 10 lines script that parses your
/etc/passwd
file and run the appropriate mbox2maildir command.

The Qmail tar ball had the files owned by "root:other". After unpacking the tar ball,
I have
the files owned by "root:bin".

Should I leave these files as they are OR change the ownership to root:root?
Does the compile need all the accounts mentioned later in the HOWTO?

Thanks you.

You can change them if you wish. Some malicious user in the "other"
group could be a concern. Since I build on controlled machines I don't
bother. ./install sets permissions correctly in .e.g /var/qmail and
subdirectories.

yes

Is there a race condition between qmail-lspawn and qmail-local around
the r & s parameters to spawn?

spqwn.c/qmail-lspawn.c set up pointers to stralloc.s's in qmail-local's
argv array. These stralloc structures will be replaced with values for
the next email to process. Is there a race condition in which these
values could be overlaid while qmail-local is still processing them?
Specifically I wonder about the the s and r variables (sender and
recipient stralloc.s pointers). They are not copied into new structures
immediately within a stack frame specific to the new qmail-local, so it
looks like there might be a race condition. Did I miss something?

No, notice fork() and not vfork() is used.

While on the subject of stralloc'ed structures: have you thought of
setting them to a fairly large value (e.g. 256 or 512 or the requeste
value, whichever is larger) when allocated? I know the stralloc_ready
can be used if you know the value will be large, but I have seen enough
byte-by-byte copy loops that it looked like a good idea to preallocate
(memory is cheap). I haven't torn into stralloc function in detail,
rather just what I saw while fixing my own code in the debugger, and a
quick look at the stralloc_ready et al code.

I seem to recall an CompSci algorithm to remember the last allocation,
then reallocate twice the space when the current area runs out of room.

Hello,
Is there a way to make qmail ignore capatilazation in email addresses?
I'm switching a small ISP from an NT based email server to qmail running
on BSDI. The NT server allowed mixed case email address, and I'm afraid
that this will be a major issue with my users. I've read the docs, but
I haven't found much on the topic. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

qmail doesn't differentiate between upper- and lower-case letters in
email addresses.

Hello!

I've been trying to bounce messages for [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], but it doesn't work :( I just copied my
.qmail-postmaster into .qmail-news, with "&root" inside, killall
-HUP qmail-send and sent a message to postmaster and to news.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] works just fine, News - doesn't. There is
"Mailbox" file appears in /var/spool/news instead. I even tried to
completely restart qmail - the same effect.
  What I did wrong?
