I'd appreciate any pointers to legible documentation, etc., or a how-to on
how to fix. Having spent the past five hours searching various archives
(egroups.com and ornl.gov), etc., and haven't gotten anywhere useful, so
here we go.

I've bogus-ized the addresses, but yes, they are all valid in my real life
setup.

Slackware Linux 7.0 (custom kernel 2.2.14)
Static IP connect
qmail 1.03 using inetd (one crisis at a time please)
qmail-pop3 installed and working

/var/qmail/alias -- owned by alias.qmail
/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-root -- owned by alias.qmail
     This file contains: "&[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Problem: I'm unable to send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and have it properly
forwarded to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Behavior: When I email [EMAIL PROTECTED], qmail bounces it back:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)

When I email [EMAIL PROTECTED], qmail delivers it properly and I can pick
up the message via pop3.

So, since I have an ~/alias/.qmail-root already set up, where am I going wrong?

Your assistance is appreciated.
