in addition to Brett Randall ideas just one more:
ping the server from the mx2 (a fine cron job) and do a tcpok <ip-address> and kill
-SIGALRM <pid.of.qmail-send> if ping is ok.
but i like bretts idea: just let the normal delivery schedule do its job and collect
points for getting mx1 stable.
