Hello everyone,
I'm trying to implement a distributed mail environment that
uses qmail/vpopmail on 5-10 linux servers connected
to a storage server using fiber optics. About 100,000 users will be
connecting to these servers, but not concurrently.
They will be serviced by POP3 and Webmail.
The reason why i am not keen on the qmail/ldap solution is
that if 1 of the servers goes down, users
will not be able to access their mail. If the file system is shared, a
change to the LDAP's mailhost variable
might overcome this, but will require the admin's intervention. Maybe
some of you would like to give some
ideas on how else to overcome this.
A few questions i would like to ask.
1) Is it possible to store /usr/local/vpopmail in the shared partition
for accessing by all servers?
2) If it is possible, are there any potential problems i might face?
3) Any tips by any of you who have experience in this setup?
4) Would cdb, mysql or openldap be more stable for authentication? or am
i asking the wrong question?
5) Would cdb be slow for 100,000 users? and if the cdb is shared by
multiple servers, would concurrent password updates
by multiple servers potentially corrupt the cdb?
6) cdb, mysql or ldap.......hehehe...which would you choose?
Thanks for all your time, if the project is successful i will
write a document on this for all of us to share ok?
Thks a Million,
Paul Tan
