It _can_ mean that your IIS server is sending messages with bare
linefeeds, or that the SMTP commands are terminated with linefeeds
instead of proper CR + LF. It's a known bug in IIS, but a patch is
apparently available.
There are other things which can cause qmail-smtpd to exit 256, though.
You could capture the incoming SMTP conversation with recordio to be
sure.
