Define "long time". Is it for all messages, or only some?

What's in the qmail-send log?

Ping means nothing. Can you connect to the SMTP port? What's in the
tcpserver logs for your qmail-smtpd service? What's the output of
qmail-showctl? Show us your service/run scripts.

A modern qmail installation doesn't use syslog, so nothing qmail-related
should show up in that log file. Check how you're logging from
qmail-send and tcpserver.
