I had this on friday. A client had over 1000 messages in Maildir/cur, I set Outlook Express to _not_ leave a copy on the server, it removed them and it worked fine again. I tryed stracing the process but I couldn't see why it was not working, I'm not a C programmer. Any other ideas from the author, programmers? Thanks crew.
