Roger,

1) Check your entries in /var/qmail/users/assign
   a) Check the directory, uid, gid entries
2) For checking existence of a domain, vpopmail uses the function vget_assign() to 
check for entries
   in the file /var/qmail/users/assign. If the entries are not correct, u might have a 
problem
3) What is the exact error vadduser gives when u run it on the command line
