If you didn't have the /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime set initially,
it defaults to (correct me if I'm wrong) 3 days. The "new" spam
technique is to send a message to your mail server with a bad return
path, so if you're running an open relay, it gets delivered to the
intended recipient. If you're not, it bounces to someone, and gets
delivered anyway. The messages will sit in the queue for however long
you have it set for - my backup mailer has an average queue of 300
messages all the time, myself.
Out of curiosity, which method did you use? One of the links I sent, or
changed the queuelifetime?
