I have read all the post about SPF. I should know this answer most likely. So again.

I need to set up SPF. Went to the site. Just not sure of my options are right.

So here is what I have.
A toaster mail.XXXX.net with dyndns. My internet connection is through a dhcp assigned address. I have sent some mail and it was returned because of no spf.

So the record is: xxxxxxx.net. IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx a:mail mx:mail"

Does this look right?

hmmm... no, i don't think so. i'd think you'd want something like:

XXXX.net. IN TXT "v=spt1 a mx a:mail.XXXX.net mx:XXXX.net"

but i'm not 100% sure that's right either.

i'd recommend using the official SPF wizard to build your SPF record:

http://www.openspf.org/wizard.html

then use a tester/validator to make sure your records are being propagated properly:
