localhost|0|vpopmail|<password>|vpopmail
And <password> is what I copied, then pasted in when mysql asked for
vpopmail's password, earlier.

I can connect via POP. Since I had not intended my users to /use/ POP,
I still had those ports closed on my firewall.

Roxanne,
There is either a permissions problem on the tables (which you just checked
for Erik and seem ok) or the password is stored wrong... so lets assume that
the tables are ok. If the tables are an issue we'll check the mysql.sock
file, but lets try something easier first.

cat /home/vpopmail/etc/vpopmail.mysql
you should see your password stored in there. I'd recommend backing up the
file before making any changes. Change if needed to make it match what you
use with vpopmail.

cp -ax /home/vpopmail/etc/vpopmail.mysql
/home/vpopmail/etc/vpopmail.mysql.20060627
Here is what i have in mine (with the password set to the word password):

localhost|0|vpopmail|password|vpopmail

Oh, you should see localhost in the first field since that's what we tested
to access.

Test it:

telnet mail.yourdomain.com 110
user [EMAIL PROTECTED]
pass password
list
quit

Successfully dumps the contents of the vpopmail database to my screen.
