i have one toaster which is the primary mx. i have an account with rollernet for their free backup mx. so whenever my primary is down, the backup will take over then deliver them to my primary when it is up. the problem is some e-mails are rejected due to its spam nature then this bounces to rollernet which doesn't like this because they are getting e-mails they did not send. how do i prevent this from happening? of course i still want spam filtering. do i just put rollernet to spamassassin whitelist? its kinda hard to test since testing means i would have to take down my toaster.

i have the very same configuration, and the very same issue :) i resolve it by disabling chkuser in tcp.smtp for the rollernet.us mail servers, like so:

208.11.75.2:allow,SPFBEHAVIOR="1",QMAILQUEUE="/var/qmail/bin/simscan"
216.90.171.2:allow,SPFBEHAVIOR="1",QMAILQUEUE="/var/qmail/bin/simscan"

(these of course go above your final :allow line)

this way mail forwarded from rollernet still gets scanned and tagged appropriately. i do get a lot of spam forwarded through rollernet; while it's useful for training my filter, i'm thinking of paying for their advanced anti-spam services.

not sure this is necessarily the best or only way to solve the problem, but it's been working acceptably for me so far.
