Thought I would chime in on this.
I'm currently using port 587 to pass mail to a server connected to
clearwire. If you remember they are the brain damaged ISP that blocks
port 25.
I am NOT using authentication. The server will only accept mail for
local delivery on that port without the authentication. According to
the logs it is doing all the checks other than blacklists. While not
having the rbl checks I'm not that concerned. Spam and AV checks are
still in place. A spammer would also have to test for port 587.
So far so good.
