dovecot is (much) faster, lighter and smarter.
-uses indexes for seedup maildir browsing and searching
-need less processes to run (no authlogin)
-could do pop and imap server (also over ssl obviously)
-up to now it has no security problems (or it seems to be)
drawbacks:
under developement, some features such as quota, shared folders, full
maildir++ support etc arrives late respect of the same features in
courier.
I use dovecot on some qmail installation (based on debian, so I don't
use qmailtoaster, I use shupp toaster with some other patches).
Every (clue less) user sees the performance boost using imap accounts,
so the boost must by very intensive :).
If a allowd to give a suggestion, try include dovecot in qmailtoaster.
It is worth a try in my humble opinion.
I have gone ahead and used the standard installation, now is the time to
reboot and see how it turns out. If it works okay I will switch to dovecot
if it will install seamlessly
