Hello all,
Some basic diagnoses before we get started:
CentOS 4.5 Linux 2.6.9-55.0.12.ELsmp on Dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU
3.20GHz running a single 144 GB SCSI disk. I installed the most recent
Qmail Toaster RPMs, the only deviations behing that I re-compiled
vpopmail with roaming users enabled.
We're going to RAM check the hardware involved, because we're not even
seeing anything in /var/log/messages, but, after a random interval of
uptime, multilog tries to write a file with the exact name ".log" to
/var/log/qmail/smtpd and when it does so a second time, it becomes
defunct. At about the same time, qmail-smtpd also turns into a zombie.
We noticed this when incoming e-mail suddenly stopped working and there
was no smtpgreeting when telnet'ing to port 25 either from localhost or
a remote host (we even stopped iptables to be sure that wasn't what the
problem was).
Up until we decided to use "svc -d" in the /var/qmail/supervise
directory, our only remedy was to reboot the entire server. Even still,
we are wondering if there isn't a bug in this particular version of
daemontools, and if reverting back to a previous SRPM wouldn't fix it.
Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.
regards,
