Will future versions of QMT have a dependancy on MM 6.44+?

I seem to recall you mentioning that also!

Eric,

A few months ago you said the best way to upgrade to MakeMaker v6.44 was:

/The bad news is that MakeMaker is part of the main perl package. COS4 has
perl-5.8.5-36.el4_5.2, which contains MakeMaker 6.17. COS5 has
perl-5.8.8-10.el5_0.2, which contains MakeMaker 6.30. The only way I can find to install MakeMaker 6.44 is to upgrade CPAN. Note, not upgrade *using* CPAN, upgrade CPAN itself, as in "perl -e 'use CPAN; install Bundle::CPAN'".
The newer MakeMaker will be updated as a dependency of CPAN./

Am I correct in assuming that we no longer need to update to MM v6.44
and that upgrading CPAN itself is not needed? Or am I getting confused?

Yes, and no. ;)

We'll have to keep our eyes on MakeMaker. Hopefully there will be a
post-6.44 version that is fixed better than the 6.44 version by the time
that it's rolled into the base package.

Best Regards,

James

Hey list,

I just upgraded a few toasters (test and production, i386 only), and
thought
I'd share a few observations:

.) It appears that updating the perl package via yum reverted MakeMaker.pm
from v6.44 to v6.30 on CentOS5/perl5.8.8, and from v6.44 to v6.17 on
CentOS4/perl5.8.5. As a result, I had no problem with installing
spamassassin-toaster-3.2.5-1.3.14.

.) I had no perl dependency issues on either CentOS release.

.) NEVER use CPAN to update your perl modules, and especially DON"T UPDATE Module::CPAN ITSELF! It's not necessary, and it can lead to problems.

The packages that were updated were clamav, spamassassin, and
squirrelmail.

BL, I belive it's a good idea to following these steps when updating
toaster
packages:
.) install the qmailtoaster-plus repo, and install qmailtoaster-plus
package
(if you haven't done so already)
.) yum update (the entire system)
.) reboot if kernel was updated
.) qtp-newmodel

In general, always "yum update" your system before upgrading toaster
packages, and don't use CPAN for managing perl packages.
