I have asked the same question, once, long time ago, and Eric Shubert answer the same answer.
so, I just pass the answer to you :D
quote:
it only 1 domain in 1 line that's why the file called "/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain" and not "/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomains"

by specifying this, users of that domain, when login to Squirrelmail and email client only need to provide their username only (without domainname.tld) now if you have multiple domains, other domains' users need to use the format usern...@domain.tld when receiving email using MUA but they can use their username only on squirrelmail if you install and configure vlogin plugins for squirrelmail

and yes, by using username only, it may get easily attacks by POP3 dictionary bots, but all of my users already used to using only username as login username, and usern...@domain.tld is their email address not login username

I love this list -- i learn so much -- i have often wondered about the same thing...
but what if one has 3 domains can you

# vi /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain
mydomain1.com
mydomain2.com
mydomain3.com

or -- for obvious reasons -- can there only be 1 default domain
or , is it true that the usrs of mydomain.com ( only 1 line , 1 domain )
can simply use the usr while the usr of mydomain2 & mydomain3
can still use web mail -- but have to submit their : u...@domain2.com. & u...@domain3.com.

thanks

Yes, you need to create the file

# vi /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain
mydomain.com

enter your domain, only 1 domain, in one line

Hi All,

When I login to my web login.. I need to put u...@domain.com and
then the password.. is there a way to just use USER in the Section
Username rather than u...@domain.com.

Try modifying /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain. I found it in the QMT-ISO
Manual Guide. Worked for me.

/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain

default vpopmail's domain type domain name that will be the default for
qmtiso
if the domain name is listed here, no domain is needed for user
authentication
i.e. w/o /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain users need to authenticate as
u...@mycompany.com
but with /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain user only need to authenticate
as
user

# vi /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain
mycompany.com

John
