Thanks Eric and Mike, both solutions look like they should work. I chose Eric's because it seemed simpler. My OS is woefully out of date (FC6), so it isn't one of the directories in the qtp repos (http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com/repos/fedora/), so qtp-newmodel wasn't happy when it tried to set up unionfs. However, once I opted out of using unionfs it worked fine. The new setting is now in place: grep CHKUSER_ALLOW_SENDER_CHAR_3 /var/qmail/doc/chkuser_settings.h #define CHKUSER_ALLOW_SENDER_CHAR_3 '/' Thanks for all your help.
