To all
I am looking to replace an existing Exchange server with a QMT box. Once
question that has arisen is an Exchange feature to "send mail on behalf of".
That is the ability to have management of another person's mailbox, while
they on holidays, or similar, and be able to respond to their mail with a
notification that you are sending mail "on behalf of".

It there a similar feature in QMT?

I don't know of a QMT (server) feature such as that. Someone else might know better than me about this though.

Off the top of my head, I think in order to achieve this sort of thing that I'd simply define the other person's account as an additional account in the manager's client program (Outlook presumably, but could be TBird or most any client). The simply define the "from" contents in that account to reflect that it's actually coming from someone else "on behalf of".

Speaking of Outlook, you should be aware that it behaves a little differently with IMAP servers than with Exchange. Deleted items appear a little differently, and also the way messages are stored in the pst file varies between O'03 and O'07. I would definitely do some testing to see what it's like before committing to a conversion.

Also, I'm curious to know how you plan to deal with other features of exchange, such as shared calendars and contacts. Of course, I'd like to see QMT displace as many Exchange servers as possible in the field. Not that I'm prejudiced or anything. ;)
