hi

i had installed sanesecurity using qtp-menu

however it is causing false positives -- some of my authenticated
customers are unable to send outgoing email

so i need to uninstall sanesecurity

a search listed the following

/etc/clamav-unofficial-sigs.conf

/opt/qmailtoaster-plus/bin/qtp-install-sanesecurity

/usr/sbin/qtp-install-sanesecurity
/usr/share/clamav/sanesecurity.ftm
/usr/share/clamav/unofficial-dbs/ss-dbs/sanesecurity.ftm
/usr/share/clamav/unofficial-dbs/ss-dbs/sanesecurity.ftm.sig

also there is cron job
/etc/cron.d/clamav-unofficial-sigs-cron

Could you please help

Oh, and before abandoning sanesecurity entirely, it could very well be
that there are some signatures out there that should be removed. It
would benefit the community to identify these and notify the signature
maintainers (via the sanesecurity list) that they need to be modified
or
removed. Provided, of course, that your users aren't phishing. ;)

hi eric

thanks very much for your reply

the problem is that this issue is happening on a random basis of
different
clients though in this case only 2 of them

gmail users from ukraine sent email to my client and it bounced back.
this
is happening regularly

and in one case my own clients could not send out emails.

I realize it's a little extra work, but I think the best way to resolve
this would be to get the offending signatures removed. You'd be
providing better service to your customers as well as helping other
sanesecurity users by doing so.

eric

i will report the issue to sanesecurity but i cannot take further risk on
this and have disabled sanesecurity on my server.

All i did was stop qmail, simply rename the relevant files / directories,
restart qmail. So that if required i can enable it in future.

the problem is that there is no way to control sanesecurity in the current
installation -- ie either the email is accepted or rejected. In
spamassassin we can set scores and have a middle option called "possible
spam" where email is marked as spam but not rejected.

the worst issue was that one of my client who is a construction company
was sending a simple PDF file with construction drawing and it was
rejected as junk

thanks for your help

Yeah, sanesecurity can be a little problematic at times. I've had false positives from Chase Bank emails that were a little tough to work around. I ended up bypassing scanning of emails from Chase servers by adding tcp.smtp entries for them.

It would be nice in your case to make exceptions for when sanesecurity rules are applied. I don't know if this would be feasible with clamav or not. Might be a good question to ask on the sanesecurity list.
