Sounds like you might have some todo entries with no corresponding messages.

I'd try the queue repair tool first. If that doesn't clear things up, stop everything, then use qmHandle to remove all queue entries, then manually remove any files left in the todo queue.

Did you "kill -9" the pics? I've never seen that not work.
You might want to reboot. Then see if you still have these mess/ queue
messages.
