Well if you think about it, after the massive backend search comes up 
with 50,000 items the client will be populating a grid or two with the 
first 20 or so results, one of the grids with dozens of columns, a 
second with fewer columns providing an index into the main grid.

Now this app also happens to be a search app, meaning they might decide 
just as we do with google to try some other search parameters to get 
better results. Or maybe they like what they see and now want to scroll 
this big grid or filter a column -- they will be quite busy and at it 
and anything much less than desktop-like responsiveness will stand out 
badly.

So even though the heavy-lifting is done on the server, there is still a 
lot of work do on the client to present and manipulate all that information.
