I am not attached to my solution at all. It simply chose it because it was
easier to implement for me - this way, I was dealing only with one widget
that needed hiding instead of an array of other child widgets. In
particular, when I tried to add animation, it seemed to me that it was
easier to deal with only one low-level DOM element. But I didn't succeed
with animation. So +1 for any solution that you find more suitable.
