I've collapsed the test case to this:
(menuCombo is the SelectBox() defined elsewhere)
var xx = new qx.ui.form.ListItem('foo', null);
this.menuCombo.add(xx);
xx = new qx.ui.form.ListItem('foo2', null);
this.menuCombo.add(xx);
this.menuCombo.removeAll(); // dies
