Hello Andrew, first of all, welcome to the qooxdoo community. Here is the right place to ask these kind of questions!
A first good starting point is the (quite primitive) hello world example in the manual: http://qooxdoo.org/documentation/1.0/helloworld But this only gets you started an as you are a experienced software developer, you sure get the idea of the example really fast. Unfortunately, we don't have a second tutorial which takes you a bit further than the 'hello world'. But we plan to bring out a tutorial line as blog posts early next year which contains a step by step tutorial for a bigger application. If you don't want to wait until that and your done with the hello world, you can take a look at the demobrowser and see how the widgets can be used. This can be a good snippet repository btw! As a final step, you can take a look at the feedreader, which is an app not too small but good structured using the newest features of qooxdoo.
