Hi,

Just to share : Cygwin is a wonderful thing to install on Window.
I can't developp on Windows plateform without it.

Their idea is to provide a layer based on Windows system DLL that will provide
the same API as Unix system API.
Then, the other Unix C source files could be just recompile.

This provide tools like find, vi, redirections, bash completion and all the
Unix wonder to Windows.
It could even provide XWIndow but to keep things simple and small, I would
advise to stick to pure shell.

It will not replace anything, and if you are forced to with a firearm for
example, you could continue to use a DOS box.

Note : it doesn't install an OS layer neither it is an Unix emulator.
Nothing link to the filesystem is needed, no partition, just plain old Windows
executables on a folder you can even choose :-)

At the time I worked under Windows, it was really operational, stable .. and
free.
