About the contrib... I'm also active in some other open source projects (FreePascal, Lazarus, ExtPascal, qxPascal, etc) though not as core developers, I learn something from them. Yes, they are very much helped by the community. But, when they see something useful and should be integrated into the core, they would bring the contribution to the core, along with the author of the contrib. They wouldn't let those useful things out of the circle all the time. This would enrich the product with more features, add more people to the core team, and also make the users feel secure because those useful things are guaranteed to be always maintained in the future since they're officially become a part of the project.
