Yes, I like the splash also ;-) I think it is important to let the user know that something is going on and what is going on. The app feels more desktop-like this way. Yeah, context menus. There is a reason why the Mac GUI doesn't use them as much as Windows, and many think that context-menus are counter-intuitive in Web applications. But you're right, I should add them, maybe simply using the already existing menu.
