Hello Martin,
Your idea did not work right out of the box but it got me in the right track
and I found a workaround. For some strange reason the appearance of the knob
is being set to "widget", no matter if the Slider itself has appearance
"slider". To fix it I did this:
control.getChildControl("knob").setAppearance("slider/knob");
