Hi Jan, sure, but what is your scope? Who should handle the event? The tree or the tree item?
If your scope is tree you can use delegations, especially "bindItem" and "pool" should be interesting for you. If your scope is the item himself you can extend qx.ui.tree.VirtualTreeItem and add custom code. In that case delegation is what you need also. But this time "createItem" will be interesting for you.
