Hi voger, nothing is more frustrating than examples that don't work and I guess that many of the examples in the book are outdated. So I would not recommend you the book. BTDT (with another book). :)

If there is wrong information somewhere, let us know and we will correct it and so everyone benefits from that. However if you are new to programming and to JavaScript you might want to read something else beforehand.
