Ah this goes back to a question I posed earlier. Is the source release
supposed to be capable of building the release candidtates(so an
alternative to a svn checkout) or is it purely the source required for
compilation?

I have made the changes to allow the releases to be built but if this
is our goal then perhaps simply including the java and spec dirs
(excluding .svn) should be what we do.
