First try removing autom4te/.

This was on a fresh checkout.

If that doesn't work, see if you have the right tools early in your path.

I have automake-1.10 in my PATH. What are the other "right tools"?

At this point I'm only running aclocal after all...

Note that I'm also trying the ./configure that I generated at home on
Ubuntu Edgy but I'm getting the same link error as yesterday when I
fixed it so that autoconf/automake would run on RHEL3 by making a
couple of small changes to configure.ac and Makefile.am.
