what is "heavy demand"?
I have about 100 - 200 connection / minute and xinetd has no problem with
the connection but qpopper seems to eat up my cpu-time when processing the
mails:(
so standalone-mode will not help i guess.

did you make any experiances?
for how many connections standalon-mode is usefull?
