Have you tried telnet to your pop server (telnet localhost 110), then USER
john, PASS *****
If you have a password problem qpopper will tell you then.

However, this bit:
fetchmail: POP3< -ERR [SYS/PERM] Unable to process From lines (envelopes),
change recognition modes or check for corrupted mail drop.
fetchmail: [SYS/PERM] Unable to process From lines (envelopes), change
recognition modes or check for corrupted mail drop.
tells me that the answer is a corrupted mailbox - probably an excess of
lines beginning with "From:" and qpopper doesn't know which is the correct
one. Have you tried deleting/moving the mailbox and sending a fresh message
to see if that can be collected?

Subject: need help

I have a strange problem. Qpopper suddently stopped
accepting a particular user's login. I have reset the password
and even deleted and recreated the account information
(but not the home directory) and qpopper will not work for this
one account. I have many other poeople with working pop accounts
and there seems to be nothing particular about this one. Telnet and ftp
work
fine for the account, and I can access the mail okay with the standard
"mail" program.

I am using Redhat 6.1 and qpopper 3.1b6

Here is what I get from fetchmail (although the problem
first occured when the person was using outlook)

fetchmail: 5.1.0 querying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (protocol POP3) at Thu, 21 Dec
2000 07:29:23 -0500 (EST)
fetchmail: POP3< +OK ready <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
fetchmail: POP3> USER john
fetchmail: POP3< +OK Password required for john.
fetchmail: POP3> PASS *
fetchmail: POP3< -ERR [SYS/PERM] Unable to process From lines (envelopes),
change recognition modes or check for corrupted mail drop.
fetchmail: [SYS/PERM] Unable to process From lines (envelopes), change
recognition modes or check for corrupted mail drop.
fetchmail: Authorization failure on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
fetchmail: POP3> QUIT
fetchmail: POP3< +OK Pop server at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx signing off.
fetchmail: authorization error while fetching from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
fetchmail: Query status=3
fetchmail: normal termination, status 3

Any suggestions?

Karl
