Possibly, but there must be a random element, too, because if I kill that hanging processes manually, the users can retrieve their mail without problems. In fact, we haven't found a way to reproduce the hangs. Our machine is a dual-Pentium II with SuSE Linux 6.4 (Kernel 2.2.x), rock solid in any respect. Oliver
