Remember that UW (University of Washington) "imap" also includes a pop
daemon and a local delivery agent.

We (marginally smaller-scale organisation) used to run qpopper, uw-imap
and Sun /bin/mail delivery. Likewise, we suspected we had problems from
this "pick'n'mix", probably caused by inconsistent locking.

So a few years ago we then switched our pop and local-delivery to the UW
products, with their consistent c-client library code. To the best of our
knowledge such problems have disappeared.
