I know this isn't an answer, but WHY would you want to do that?
it's kind of like asking, does anyone know how to get the mysql server to serve ms-sql databases instead?

I want to use webmail and a local mail client [in] parallel. As soon as
the webmail filters into folders, POP3 cannot fetch the messages anymore.
However, IMAP is "bad" for me because I would like to have all messages
fetched from the server and then have them deleted immediately from there,
which seems to be impossible with current IMAP clients without a lot of
hassle... :-(

Uh, dude ... that is the *whole point* of IMAPv4 - to keep the messages on the server. That way, you can access them via WebMail, via an IMAPv4 client, from anywhere - even a POP3 client if you don't want to refile them. (Lord knows why you wouldn't want to refile, if so.)

I cannot possibly imagine what your reasoning is for having the messages
deleted immediately from the server. It surely cannot be for disk space
reasons when disks are roughly 1 Euro/GB these days (or less) ...

At the risk of being labeled a troll, qpopper, POP3 and the whole
ridiculous notion of copying an entire spool file to another
temporary file and then back again - capable of bringing servers
to their knees with just a few simultaneous POP-ins of people
with large spool files - is soooooo 20th Century. (I'm still on this
list only because I still run an old Qpopper server until all of my
users are moved over to my new Courier server - then I'm outta here.)

Once you've gone the IMAPv4 and Maildir route and realize that it gives
you speedy, ubiquitous, equal access, you'll never go back to POP3.
